I diagnosed the undercharge condition by measuring voltages. IIRC, it was not an "OMG, I have a big difference here!", more on the order of 1/10 Volt. I exchanged positions of the batteries to confirm that it was happening.
I've had the batteries on solar during the storage season so if they are now all equal in voltage, I'm going to call it adherence to the SMKettner effect.
