Oil Prices

Gasoline and diesel fuel prices have dropped significantly due to the oil "glut," but the price of engine oil has remained basically unchanged. Does anyone know why?
  • Because consumers do not demand competitive pricing. VLCC schedule years on advance. Most of the crude can be manipulated to make different products. Germany, japan and india, brasil, and the middle east list for both base oil and finished product lubricants which are a heck of a lot less costly to ship. That being said I saw castrol in Wal-Mart for $16.99/ 5 qts.

I think that sez it all. :)
  • Because of the high cost of additives, packaging & marketing.

    Or put another way
    Because they can
