Kpack:
I have a spray can of CRC Elctronic Component Cleaner which I think is the same stuff as the one RS sells.
When we were trying things out last weekend, the ground power was disconnected. The generator doesn't run long enough to see any ac on board.
I understand the "shut-off" solenoid has an unrestrained spring that coud fly off when I remove it, so my initial check will be to see if it still gets 12V after the generator stops. If it doesn't, I might run a temporary dedicated 12V wire to it so I can keep it open and see if the generator will continue to run. When it's disconnected, the generator won't start at all.
I'm leaning towards the conclusion that something is telling the generator to shut off rather than it being a dirty carb. The whole generator is so clean, you could eat lunch off it.
More news when I have some. It's raining hard at present, so outside work is not an option.
