OK. Off topic, but...
While I'm not yet convinced, I posed the STP question to my uncle on a couple of occasions sometime back. He's a Porsche and vintage car restoration guy with a handful of bests in class at Pebble with Porsches, Bugattis, etc... That doesn't necessarily qualify him as the expert on STP, but he's in a better than average position to be "in the know."
Here were his replies...
"I no longer use Castrol in my older cars, I use Swepco 20-50 in my 1985 Porsche Carrera with 2 pints of STP as the 911 is a dry sump engine with a 13 qt. oil tank. I like the way STP sticks to the surfaces. My Porsche sits a lot. I also use STP in my 2008 Mercedes and my 2011 4-Runner with Mobil-1 synthetic used in both vehicles. I have no knowledge of Rotella as I used Mobil-1 in my 2010 Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel also STP."
"We have had several Mercedes Benz cars over the years and they all have a upper valve train "rattle" when you first start 'em up. I have gone back to using STP and it has made a difference in the Mercedes when we fire it up after it has been sitting overnight, no more rattle. This tells me that the STP is sticking to the surface of the misc. parts and providing a thin layer of lubrication protection. The fellow who has built my engines for my Porsche projects told me to go back to using it. He was a former race mechanic for Brumos Porsche Racing in Florida. I have been using the stuff now in all three of my cars plus my 2011 Kubota diesel tractor."
Again... anecdotal only, but I have read quite a number of others... on Bob is the Oil Guy, AAMOF. I don't use it, but the anecdotes are worth consideration IMHO.
