MEXICOWANDERER

?
Federal Mogul used to have several grades, the strongest was the AP aluminum bearing. I used this bearing against hard chromed high nodular iron crankshaft journals. Ran engine for @ 100K
Then did a full re-man and used TRW triple alloy bearings. Another 100K and a micrometer could not tell the difference is clearance to the AP bearing.
Titanium is a nightmare to form and machine. This is from personal experience. Check with a big city machine shop to verify this. And titanium regardless of grade costs about 100 times as much as clad steel main and con rod bearings.
SIXTEEN titanium intake and exhaust valves set me back over a thousand dollars in the late sixties. When they needed to be resurfaced the machine shop charged me four times as much as for standard valves and the owner made clear "Do not return with these valves". Exotic steels I used for example Vasco Jet 1000 valve springs were ten times the price of high performance valve springs. The titanium valves demanded titanium valve keeps. At four dollars per valve. This was almost fifty years ago.
A Cummins NTC engine goes 500,000 to 700,000 miles between in-frame rebuilds and an out-of-frame reman is done after the second or third in-frame.
This isn't Urban Myth.
