Generic Oil Info. If the oil is too thin, (IE 5 Weight or too thick (50) then proper lubrication may not happen. Too think runs off the bearings and leaves them basically dry, Too thick can't make it into the bearings and leaves them dry.. So that may be why no 50 weight, it is also why the multi-viscosity oiles 5W-30 means when you hit START, in the winter, it acts like 5 Weight, but as the engine warms, it becomes 30
Why do companies recommend their own oil? Three reasons
1: PROFIT, yes, The Almighty dollar, For the love of money
2: They know it is the proper oil for the engine so that may (ultimately) save you money, the company vouches for the quality
3: Money again, Use of the proper oil can help avoid warranty repairs.
