RJ. When you go to overhaul an Onan you will indeed possibly lose your life due to a heart attack over the cost of parts and labor. You assssssssssssssume EVERYONE is the same. Ten years and 200 hours on a genset. My father's boss was a knothead. He owned a '55 Buick Roadmaster. Bragged about never changing oil in 70,000 miles. Near Curry Creek CA. in 1959 while on the road, the engine blew up, caught fire, burned 400+ acres of Marsh Creek Canyon grassland and the BLM sent him a bill for 7,000 dollars for fighting the fire. Real brilliant.
Reality says, where ya gonna be at 10,000 hours of operation? My Kubota is well maintained and shows a "like-new" cylinder leakdown test after 8,000 hours.
For folks who seldom use a generator, the oil issue is a moot point. For high demand, long hours of operation, it's a different world.
Seen LOTS of broken engines with La Brea Tar Pits grade oil in the crankcase.
