I have 2 Wheel Horse tractors with 20HP Onan engines. The older one always started and ran fine. The newer one had a lean "Al Gore" carburetor and ran poorly till warmed up. The biggest problem was that; I couldn't shut it down till it idled for a minute, else it would backfire. Well that backfiring split the muffler open.
In the last two weeks, I purchased a used muffler and an older carb on EBay. I cleaned and rebuilt the carb and now have two polluting tractors that run great. By the way, a new Onan muffler is well over $600.
