When my Onan quit and I found out the repair would be $1800. I asked around and many folks indicated their repaired Onan's never seem to work properly after the rebuild. I decided to look at portable units.
I found two Honda 2000i generators with the parallel kit for $1600 out the door. This was many years ago.
The two Hondas seem like a better solution because I could use the generators elsewhere, like when the power went out at home and edison company said it would take 36 hours to fix the failed transformer and lines.
If I was buying today, I would look for a 3000 to 4000w portable unit with a remote start feature. Stay under 59db if possible.
