That's correct - the battery mount will be welded to the frame behind a wall panel, so they'll have to be mounted on their sides for me to access the terminals. I wouldn't be able to maintain wet batteries without another costly mod to add a door and sliding tray. That cheap plastic panel door alone is about $200! I'd rather spend that money on capacity for maintenance-free batteries, and just crawl under the rig when I need to access them.
And there's not a whole lot of room under there...I think I could fit 4 large 6Vs, but additional batteries would have to go somewhere else, which I'm not planning to do. So I'd like to pack as many AH into that space as I can. If there's a better way to pack AH into smaller space, I'm all ears!
That battery was just an example of what I found, btw. I'm not set on any specific equipment yet, and the 800AH isn't a hard requirement.
