Hi,
The bypass switch for the amp-l-start would only be used if and when you found the 15 amp charging rate would not "keep up" to the loads. It would also allow equalization to be done to the OEM house batteries.
We all disconnect our converters when not on shore power. Most also "do" the fridge on propane, too.
