An A&E awning will need about 11 turns on the springs. Doesnt matter the length of the awning, A&E springs are sized for the length. The front spring will wind CCW, the rear, CW. Its marked on the end caps which way to wind.
I agree to use self tap self drill screws to hold the end caps and to hold the fabric in place when 'timing' the arms.
Quality vise grips are a must, I use the U jaw style.
