Open Frame Vs Inverter With Heavy Loads

I'm trying to get a handle on the noise level of an open frame generator vs 2 inverter gens in parallel (Champion 3500/4000 and 1700/200).

My AC load with the gen on is 16-18 amps or so. I'm trying to determine if a pair of inverters is going to be significantly quieter than the open frame unit.


I have a heater that's about 12 or 13 amps. I was going to use that as a load and measure the open frame to determine noise level.

Should I use the same load with a SINGLE 2000 watt generator to compare or try to make up an 8 amp load and then add 3db?

    The most annoying noise doesn't come from the engine, it comes from the whirring of the generator rotor. A big muffler doesn't make much difference.

    Just get the 2 inverters. You'll be much happier.

    T think you have open frame and contractor grades confused; the champions 3500-4000 are not concidered open frame, they have a muffler the size of a small car, whereas open frame is a lawn mower type exhaust
