An open neutral on 50A service is a disaster because each 120V leg of the 50A power can vary between 0V and 240V and the smoke is quickly let out of the appliances which is what happened to you.
So why didn't the PI HW50 protect you? The answer is simple: The problem occurred after the HW50. ie The tech is right and your dealer has no clue and doesn't want to accept responsibility.
Call the manufacturer and request a good service facility that has the skills to fix your problem.
Problem in the walls??? That would seem to imply the problem is between the two ends of a power cord. Unlikely but possible as it could be penetrated by a staple or screw.
