Outdoor speaker install

I have to relplace my outdoor speakers. They are surface mount and only have small hole for the wiring. I want to cut bigger holes and install something nicer. I have a fiberglass sided TT. What I have now is below. Is cutting larger holes a DIY job?

Looking at something like this:

  • I would not cut large hole in fiberglass wall. My outdoor speakers are mounted in the J panel aluminum skirting, below fiberglass wall. Work great, sound great, easy access.

My daughter introduced me to the wireless BLUE TOOTH speakers from WALMART. Never turned back...

Now I can have speakers anywhere I want... Even in my shirt pocket wandering around outside around the trailer...

You use a wireless transmitter modules that gets its audio from the radio and then broadcasts it out to the wireless speakers...

I have a good 50-foot range outside my trailer to sit the wireless speakers on a table somewhere...

My speakers too are too thick for the wall and when you look in the cabinet where they are installed you can see the speaker cones and all inside the cabinet. Has to be weather proof marine type speaker cones...

  • I just went through something similar. I just ordered a set of 6.5 speakers. When they got here I went to install them and they were too big. I stored the unit until spring and went to install them two weeks ago. I was planning to make the hole a little bigger when I discovered not only where the holes smaller but the new speaker was too deep. I ordered 6" shallow speakers and they fit perfectly. I didn't want to make the inside any deeper as it is sealed well.
  • You will probably have an issue as RV walls are about 1.5" thick.

The round ones you referenced has the following Mounting Depth: 2.48"

Try opening up your existing speakers, and then stick a stiff wire in the hole (push through the foam insulation) then measure how deep.

You might be able to find a bezel to hold the speaker out from the wall.

    Good luck!
