On the pc high deff starts at 1388*768
On tv high deff starts at 1280*720 then goes to 1960*1080
Monitors can be bought for less dollars than tv's, because the have no tuner , fewer inputs, no remote , no ambient light sensor, etc..
Get a TV listed as 1080i with VGA and HDMI inputs and have the best of both worlds
That will be the most pixels and the sharpest picture, unless you want to move up to the new 4k tv's, which at the moment is costly and AFAIK nobody is producing any media in that format
