I have that 3000/6000w Power Jack PSW inverter I picked up off of ebay for under $200. It has run everything up to the 1875 watt hair dryer but if my clamp meter is right, it pulls 16a at idle. That's fine while the solar picks up the slack but leave it on over night and it's a killer.
I didn't switch to mono panels on purpose. I didn't have long to pick the panels I took out of the stacks the guy had for $85 and in my rush recognized the Bosch name so I took those. I didn't find out that the Bosch were mono and the other set of 245w were poly until I got home. I would have preferred the Polys but these will do.
What I really should have done was taken the whole stack of 245w panels and started making portable systems to sell on CL. There is a person that for years has been selling 70w kits for $400, so I think I could make some money and buy respectable toys. :)
