Gee wiz Salvo, just what panels are you running? I don't believe I have ever met anyone that had panels that didn't drop their production some when it got cloudy be it at the controller or simply with using meters to measure the Voc/ Isc as the light conditions changed. How much they drop is what matters and in some cases only Uni-solar type panels make sense.
So how many panels did you test side by side before choosing what you use? Or did you buy a set, put them up and call it good? Do you know what happens to the output of your panels in different conditions, can they still provide for you in low light conditions? I needed to know as we get clouds at mid day pretty much daily.
When I asked one of the owners of Navjo solar why they went poly, he said cost. When he asked why I was switching from two seemingly perfectly good monos, I said that being off grid, as soon as a cloud rolls in... He finished my sentence by saying the output drops like a rock. So I just might not be the "only" person that notices this.
It should be interesting to see the side by side of the two controllers with matching panels, wire, etc. I know the Eco-w couldn't make anything out of the greatly reduced Voc/Isc of a mono in cloudy conditions but I am just sure the respectable controller can make something out of nothing because it has special magic smoke. ;) Luckily I still have two monos to test that theory with.
So again, how much gear have you tested side by side?
