Jim, the difference in daily loss of amp-hours btw series wired #6 and #8 at 35ft*35V*30A will be negligible. On the bright side, you eliminate the roof J-box if use AWG 8 MC4.
Parallel is a different story, #8 is out of question. Cost $40 cheaper for AWG 4 from Home Depot - I don't think it matters, unless you are a true pauper. OTH, pains of running AWG 4 and J-box would matter to me.
Shading from vent cover can be a problem (at times) if you install the panel less than 1ft away. Consider that panel needs to have at least 1" clearance from the roof. With 2" frame the panel surface will be 3" above the roof, or higher. My panels surface is 3" and 4" above the roof - one is 4" to clear the plumbing vent. IMO, with panel placed +1ft away, you will have “some” shading only in early morning and late afternoon hours. Might not be notable enough to justify parallel wiring.
