Yes.
Shading tests won't be too easy. He would have to actually install panels, at their actual height above the roof. Then, on a few nearly identical and clear days, measure the daily AH draw - the only thing that matters, IMO - with parallel and series wiring (and with different wire gauge?)...
The results will be peculiar to the OP – to his particular panels, height of panels, proximity to roof structures and his particular location.
