I had read that post a while ago and was looking for it again. Thanks for finding it for me.
I suspect that post is correct about the importance of the AC source. It also gives me some information about improved PD performance when an additional load is added to the Onan they were using. My Onan differs in certain respects. It's a rotating armature design, instead of rotating field, and it has no electronic voltage regulator. I'll have to test to decide if that's good or bad for use with the PD.
