I see this thread is still going. Just got out of "dead" internet zones of Glacier, Yellowstone & Grand Teton NP. As always, it's great to camp & hike there. No close encounters with grizzlies.
Last trip to Grand Teton we hiked for 6 days and ran into a grizzly that was annoying dayhikers by following just a bit faster than they wanted to go until they dropped one of those nice colored daypacks full of goodies. He tried that trick on us and some dayhikers as we were exiting. We'd been warned about him and, as recommended by the ranger, were carrying spray, but it's not something you want to use. Mr. B kept pushing closer and closer and faster and faster until I decided to pull the spray out of the belt case. I was just about to arm it when we turned the corner and found mother moose and calf 5' off the trail. She wasn't having any of this bear sh$t and in the ensuing melee we continued out of range.
They transported him a few days later. We learned later they ultimately had to put him down.
The journey getting it to work is always rewarding and satisfying.
