I missed the transformer spec in the patent. The dead time I calculated as between 17.3 (using their simple analysis) and 23 microseconds (with the more complex analysis, but making some guesses about current levels) out of a 10kHz (100 microsecond) cycle, so you're right on the money at 77% to 83% max.
BTW, I started designing dc/dc converters over 20 years ago using the Unitrode UC1824 controller. The hardware flew into outer space.
