They don't all wait to start tapering once Vabs is reached, although that is the "usual story" Vector chargers are programmed to go to Stage 2 when battery voltage reaches 13.9ish and amps then taper, but battery voltage continues to rise all during the Absorption stage while amps are tapering.
PowerMax converters (like Vector chargers) do maintain constant amps in Stage 1 and normally will not taper till converter reaches Vabs.
But funny things happen, as seen in the second graph here when I had Vabs set to over 15v and the 458AH bank was way less capacity at 35F. Tapering starts "early" and voltages keep rising.
The first graph shows the un-modified PowerMax charging profile where it drops to 13.6Vabs for Stage 2 and then how it goes when Vabs is modified- set to 14.6 Vabs is maintained steady (not like the Vectors) Compare those with the Vector tapering "early" but with rising Vabs on the eventual result.
To get the same result as the Vectors, I have to put the PowerMax Vabs at 14.8 so Vbatt will get higher that it did there.
With the PowerMax I get an initial 101A then after a minute or so it goes up a bit possibly as the batteries warm up internally,(EDIT-I have since discovered that the PM's own output voltage rises slightly before steadying as it warms up after start-up) then there is a tip off that amps are about to taper when near the end of Stage 1, amps go up a tad first.
