The advantage of AGMs is a long list where IMHO, it is not a single advantage but, the aggregate that tips the scale.

Is it possible that if/when you test again that you could plug the charger into a Kill-A-Watt and log Watts and PF during the test? You would then know actual Watts drawn as the charging progresses.
