I was fortunate enough to spend part of my career working in and managing an industrial maintenance operation, so I learned the value of prevention. Most failures of a serious nature are foreseeable and preventable, or you can schedule the correction. So we've avoided significant delays.
I have also ruthlessly disposed of vehicles or components that exhibited lack of reliability.
Yes we have had some deviations and repairs on the road; fortunately I can do quite a bit myself and feel confident in choosing vendors when we need one.
One example I can share, we spent three days in Gettysburg once due to a blown intercooler. We were planning a stop there anyway, so we just extended it a day waiting for the new IC to arrive. The OEM part was known to be weak (plastic tanks!) so I had an aftermarket better part air shipped and changed it in the campground (with their approval of course). And back on the road again!
