Transfer switches can and do fail causing cross power connections. One brand was "likely" to catch on fire.
Checking the pedestal is a good idea but won't revel intermittent problems. I once had 160V at night on a 30A pedestal. My PI HW50C disconnected and saved expensive equipment.
