- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerLessee power brick plug versus USB. Oooooooo one is rectangular an other round. I need to order CORD repair ends. Only there is like thirty different sizes. And the nearest Radio Shed is a 180 mile drive and a 3 hour wait crossing the border and twenty dollars worth of toll road fees.
The adaptaplug needs a special "other end".
So I guess there isn't an easier way to sort out plug ends, other than buy 120 of them at buck-fifty per at Frys Electronics.
Worry not. I seldom spring traps. (But a compelling desire to swerve and hit a rolling aluminum beverage can be also be described as a knee jerk reaction). Curious.
But this plug end nonsense is "not intelligent" a very polite way to put it.
So I ask again in plain English - I have perhaps seven or eight power bricks with bad ends and they all seem to be a different size. Limited to an eBay or Amazon purchase how would you resolve it? - mike-sExplorer

You asked for standardization. USB Power Delivery provides up to 100 watts over a standardized connector. Adoption for laptops is starting, as it did previously with USB charging for phones and other devices which didn't need as much power to charge.
What geometry has to do with it is a mystery to everyone but you.
But what's it matter? Even if it's USB, you'll just be determined to screw it up by making it non-standard. - NaioExplorer IIOh, an individual, non-legislative solution?
If you can't ID the wanted plugs from google images, I would imagine you could buy a multipack of assorted plug ends for a couple bucks and try them all. I assume you have already checked the local junk store/pile for something with a compatible other end?
I got a charger once that supposedly worked on 'all' laptops, having an assortment of mix and match plug ends. Whole thing was $20 IIRC, but the brick was DOA. I might still have it somewhere... - By the time the connector has failed... the junk is long since outdated.
I get something new. That is the world we live in. - GdetrailerExplorer III

To Gov "standardizations"..
Too much meddling now that makes life EXPENSIVE and often difficult..
There ARE INDUSTRY "standards" that designers can and often use, but, more often than not, designers will use specialty connectors to reduce the off chance of a clueless end user from destroying their device via stupidity by reaching for any old power supply that fits the socket
As far as your problem goes, deal with it..
Yeah, that sounds harsh but put on your big boy pants and do as other good smart techs will do.. Either tear apart the molded connector (yep, I HAVE done that) to get back to good wiring then repair the break and cover repair with heat shrink..
OR buy a NEW factory power supply and be done with the moaning.. New power supplies are often not all that expensive and often not much more than repair connectors..
IF you buy a new supply, then use a piece of heat shrink around the connector back a couple of inches on the wire.. This creates a strain relief and the break will happen a couple of inches away from the connector and makes repairing a snap down the road.. But do not overkill with multiple layers of heat shrink, that is a great way of breaking the devices input connector (IE this is a major problem with laptops).
OR...
Buy a new power supply then take EXTRA CARE of how YOU HANDLE the device..
I can't tell you just how many power supplies, USB cables and ear buds my teen DD has killed over the last few years and it is all about how careless she is with handling them.. There has been many times I felt like I needed to order CASES of USB cables and ear buds for her..
I never destroyed that many connectors in my entire lifetime..
I quit buying her the stuff, she breaks it, she PAYS for new cables and ear buds.. She doesn't break as much now
Number one thing is sharp bends, avoid them at all costs, don't set your device down on the power cord.. That is a quick way to destroy the small fragile wires that go into the plugs.. - RvpapaExplorerMEX Google 'DC jack sizes' and you should find enough info to help a bit.
Art. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerThank you. Rvpapa.
Yes I am clumsy. One handed people usually are more prone to accidents. But one comment seems to be FIXATED on USB. I do not have a problem with USB connections - the ones labeled STANDARD, MINI and MICRO. Round hole with pin. But what does USB matter? None of my power bricks ever had USB. Maybe power bricks residing in a different reality do :)
Love it "Even if it's USB, you'll just be determined to screw it up by making it non-standard"
My power bricks have USB? Oooooo this is rich. Off the tracks, down the hill and into the ravine. Kudos! A gold medal award for UNCLEAR ON THE CONCEPT. my 4.2, 5.0 volt, 8.0. 9.0, 11.2, 12, and 14 volt power bricks all have different plugs.
I went to this link this explains it clearer than I did

A SINGLE 5' IEC cord costs twelve dollars down here and there are no power bricks other than the 40 dollar models for laptops. My devices are all lower voltage. Like a CCrane 200 dollar radio or a sixty dollar LEPAI 12 volt audio amplifier. Neither came with a power supply.
I do have a universal AC and DC power in laptop brick with a dozen different interchangeable tips. - BumpyroadExplorerlast time I checked at radio shack, they had a brazillion different pigtails hanging on the shelf to try to fit your device.

i have been able to solder and heat shrink wire directly to the adaptaplugs an make them work. if you were able to get some of these to you it would cover a lot of the ones you come across if you have some of the adjustable power adapters. 28in1 Universal adapter set
or these Universal Power 28 Plug
