power brite inverter

Anybody have any thing to say about Power brite inverter.

I get my new camper
I plan on installing the 1100 watt model,2200 surge, to power a 1000 watt microwave. I plan on having 2 series 27 RV batts.
the truck will have a 200 amp alt.

  • Nice rig, I always was a fan of those Palomino slide-ins. Hope the star gazing is good down in Quartzite. There's pretty good sky up here but a full moon, tonight, and the temps are producing ice halo.

    If you're planning on running a microwave, I'd suggest to look for a bigger pure sine inverter and think about more batteries. Maybe you're running a nice generator and charging system so you can disregard if that's the case.
    I use a Xantrex Prowatt SW1000. It runs TV, stereo, and a small 120v dorm fridge. The previous Samlex 600w inverter wouldn't handle the loads. The Xantrex is quiet and doesn't seem to miss a beat.
  • It might not have been the "cheapo MSW" at all, but could also have been low voltage from how the inverter is wired or if using a 12v socket type connection instead of clamps on the battery bank.

    I need to save up for a pure sine wave.At Q the other nite I was stargazing and had my computer program on and then
    I plugged it in to my250 watt MSW and it would not charge correctly and a message came up I had a defective batt,has not happened since,so it was the cheapo MSW.

  • One thing about MSW is it does not pull as many amps from the battery when on MW duty. The 1500w input on PSW is more like 1100w on MSW and that shows up in slower heating.

    I calculated that you draw fewer AH using the MW on MSW than with PSW to do the same job. The time is longer but the amps lower (110a vs 150a say) so Peukert makes it a better deal to have the MSW. Also 110a means not hitting that 11v alarm so soon as with 150a too, if you have a smaller battery bank so that matters.

    Problem is some MWs don't work well with MSW inverters and there is little info on which ones will with which. However many folks report theirs works ok.

    Power Brite doesn't have an exactly "stellar" reputation. I'd go for a Cobra--or for a pure sine wave unit. (I'm saving my pennies to get a pure sine way unit--except the Canadian government stopped making pennies.)
  • Or you could do like I do, use a Samsung 800 watt microwave on a 4000 watt MSW inverter and wait seven lousy minutes to heat a single cup of coffee. It's the MSW. Battery voltage drops .3 volt at the inverter studs. Getting really ready to get a real MSW inverter for the 1,800 watt commercial microwave I have. The same cup of coffee takes 34 seconds to heat to 90c on shore power. The LCD panel on the Siemens goes nuts when it sees MSW.

    the back label says 1000w.My cheapo 1200-1500 4 year ond champion runs it ok,Im
    just getting lazy about loading and unloading the gen.I could run 2 6v but never have because if 1 goes bad,what due you do with 6v?
  • Te power ratings are always misleading on MW's. I tried to run the 1200 watt MW in our house off my old Power Mate 1850 (cheapo gen) and it wouldn't do it. Looking at the specs on the MW I find out it draws 1850 watts!
  • Your "1000w" MW will want about 1500w input--read the info on the back label. You will want a 2000w inverter.

    Meanwhile, that 1500w draw will be a 150amp draw on the batts. Two batts can't take that and hold up the voltage over 11v while the inverter is on, and the inverter shuts off if voltage goes under 11v (usually alarm goes off at 11 and it shuts off at 10.5 or so)

    Which means you want four batts to supply that 2000w inverter to run your "1000w" MW

    However! You can run a small MW like a " 700w" that actually wants 1000w input on that 1100w inverter and it might run for a couple minutes on two batts. Some MW jobs only take three minutes.

    Another trick if you only have room for two batteries is to make those AGMs which can take the big MW draw without falling below 11v so fast. Now you can do it with two instead of four batts, at least for some shorter MW jobs.
