My home computer uses a Samsung 27" LED w/ power brick output rated at 14 volts and 4 amp. Point of reference. It has the analog dsub port in addition to the hdmi ports. It is about 2 years old maybe a little less. I strongly suspect it draws less than the 4 amps in nearly all conditions. I know the default setting is for less than full brightness.
I also have Macbook Air 13" laptop. Bought for the reason that it draws very little power-I've measured about 10 watts web surfing with Kil A Watt, rising to 18 if I really push it hard with something. If you can someday transition to solid state drive laptop w/ LED screen, you can save significant power. My old Sony laptop with standard laptop hard drive and LCD fluorescent screen idled at about 40 watts rising to 60 watts with activity.
