TVs have pretty low resolution, and generally make very mediocre monitors. I'd get a real computer monitor, and beware the super inexpensive ones. Look for Energy Star ones that meet your size and resolution preferences, then check the specs to see what their wattage is. If it uses a brick for power, check the output to see if it's 12V - this won't be in the specs so the only way to find out will be to physically read the label - if it is you can save a lot of energy by feeding it 12V directly (on the order of 20-40% depending on the efficiency of the brick).
