Backlighting is what it says - lights behind the screen, they work to make the picture britghter/darker. All flat monitors have backlighting, disregard their blurb.
LCD and LED differ very little.
LCD are LCD with backlighting made of CFL tubes.
LED are LCD (yes, LCD) but with backlighting made of tiny LED.
Backlighting made of LED is easier to control than long tubes, therefore on "some" pictures LED result in "darker" dark areas and "brighter" bright areas, ex. sun rising over the mountains. LED backlights are also - usually - slightly more energy efficient than CFL. Overall, not worth overpaying 50% but maybe worth extra 15-20%.
Top gun? Both Vizio and View Sonic are Chinese knock-offs, domestic brands. Not Dell, or HP or something else. Whichever has lower price for same specs, or toss a coin.
