we have a 3500/4000 genny and a set of 6 foot ramps to get into truck bed. ramps are 2X8's with add on ends to hook truck bed and do double duty as leveling blocks for the camper and they span the tandem wheels. NEVER needed to unload genny while camping but peace of mind and double duty make the ramps worthwhile.
we use the genny for rest stops and lunch breaks to power AC and microwave/coffeemaker, seldom in campgrounds.
healthy meals while traveling and comfortable rests with AC make the genny worthwhile. we also carry a very small tanked compressor thats AC powered and have helped people with flats/flat spare tires a few times.
our genny sits under a shell on the pickup, with end gate closed and windows open to breath/let out exhaust/keep cool not noisy outside.
