The one thing I learned from running a generator in a pickup truck bed -- if you can, find a thick rubber mat for the generator to go on, and make sure there is some rubber where it contacts the bed walls. This significantly dampens vibration and noise because without it, the truck bed causes resonations. I also try to have the exhaust pointing in a direction away from my camper and away from others.
It is wise to keep the generator covered with a truck cap. Out of sight, out of mind for thieves.
