I'm surprised to hear the 3100 wouldn't start your A/C, my 2700 gives good service under heavy starting loads. But I've never tried the 3100, nor have I heard it. Since I don't like the boxy, bulky design of any 3000-class gennie, I figured I would add the parallel kit and second unit if I find I need more power (40A).
Regarding noise, my 2700 has a low, throaty rumble to the exhaust sound, much quieter than my Champion 3500, but likely not as quiet as a Honda 3000, alhough more pleasant-sounding.
As to hefting the gennie into a truck bed, this was my whole goal with the 2700--it's luggable (at 80 lbs). Might want to compare the weight of the Honda 3000, I believe it's 149 lbs. No fun!
