When I spent 5 weeks in Sao Paulo in 1988 I got to drive a Brasil Ford with alcohol tank and motor. Understand THIS: The cars can not start on alcohol. They have a separate tank for gasoline that was selling for five dollars a gallon. When the engine caught and ran a few seconds the system would be switched to gasoline. If you didn't do it right the car stalled. A 130 Hp Ford Fiesta 4 cylinder alcohol engine developed 88 horsepower on alcohol. The sedan was GUTLESS. Oh I also like the part where the same engine on gasoline gets 28 Mpg and on alcohol gets 19. Stand on a street corner in downtown Sao Paulo and eyes sting and throat burns. It's AWFUL. But according to armchair USA pundits alcohol is sitting at the right hand of god. Mix alcohol with gasoline and you have a MESS. Refineries can no longer add MDA additive Metal De Activator with alcohol as it instantly forms molasses. So no protection from glavanic corrosion. Louis, my host in a city suburb introduced me to a lot of friends and acquaintances. They ALL HATE ALCOHOL WITH A PASSION. Mexico forbids the manufacture, sale, or importation of fuel that has any amount of alcohol in it. By Federal law. You keep your pseudo wanna be gasoline. If you want to do something constructive try and find any hard data sheets that compare emmissions between real gasoline and gasohol. Not just CO CO2 HC & NOX but also emissions of compounds not found in combusted gasoline. Go for it rather than armchair analyze...
