We've been adding bleach to the 5000 gallon holding tank for our home for 37 years as the only disenfecting method. The tank is fed by our semi-private well and spring systems. A water expert consultant recently informed me that bleach is more effective than an ozone system in disenfecting drinking water - just more work keeping up with doing it regular and in the proper ppm amounts. I add about 5 oz. (of the new concentrated bleach) per week to our tank so as to disenfect around 1000 gallons of the tank's water (one fifth of it's total) per week of water draw-down.
There are plenty of references for using pure (no additives) bleach in drinking water, including how much to add to water heaters to super-chlorinate them periodically - which we have done to our home hot water heater.
