We have a Progressive Industries EMS-HW30C in our TT. I removed it so I could install it in our new RV when we get it. When I unscrewed it from the floor I notice a purpleish/black square on the linoleum. It's under the box where the wires are screwed into the little cubed unit. Bottom of box is also marred and can tell it got hot there. Have not had any problems with it. Maybe it happened when we use the gens cause we have to turn off the system to let the electricity in, I don't know. Anybody else notice this? I am going to give Progressive a call and talk with them. Let you know what they have to say. Could of caught fire.Milo

Probably where the relay is mounted. It is on all the time. The thing that goes "clunk" a couple seconds after you plug in.

Great idea ..why didn't I think of that. Oh I did. (said that in original statement)

Tech said it does get warm and the chemicals in the vinyl will discolor from the heat, that ...that was normal, nothing to be concerned about. When I remount it in the new trailer I'm gonna put some spacers under where the screws secure it to the floor so air can flow under it & get it off the vinyl. Definitely good to know. If it requires a spacer between the case and where it attaches, I might check to see if a metal shop can machine a piece of aluminum between the it and where it is being attached to. If it does get hot, maybe even see about turning that piece of metal into a full fledged heat sink with fins on the sides.

You could put a piece of sheet metal on top of the spacers, or better yet use 2 spacers each, and the sheet metal between each pair of spacers.

That's not even necessary. Home Depot sells nylon standoffs in any length an any diameter for about $.50 apiece.

Regan .. My cord is bout 14' long. I suggested the spacers to the tech & he agreed it wouldn't hurt but said in all the years they have been producing them, they have been mounted on carpet, wood, linoleum, vinyl and any other material put in RV's and have never had any issue with one catching the RV on fire. He also said they get "warm" which would react with the oils in the linoleum & vinyls but not hot enough to catch em on fire.
