I went out and looked closely at it today. The hose from the street side is more like 8 feet long and there is a regulator on the street side tank in addition to the regulator on the switchover valve on the curb side. The longest pigtail I've see online is 60"

The tan knob rotates and should have an indicator. The OEM one in my camper is either a Cavagna or looks just like it. It's 11 years old and still,works fine,

What he said. So in theory, if you do have one tank completely empty and you flip the selector from the full to the empty, it will stay green until you use some propane to purge the pressure down in the indicator.

Also the propane should keep flowing if both tank valves are open until both tanks are empty. :h

I don't know if that made sense or not. :R

My money is on the tanks having an auto change over valve and a selector on top of the change over to just indicate if you have pressure in the tank that you select with the indicator.

Remember the Red/Green shows the status of the tank the Select Lever is pointing to ;)

For what it's worth, I asked the same question a while back, and had almost settled on the Cavagna regulator until I read the Amazon reviews. Lots of reviews about failures, non-existent customer service, made in Italy. for me, that's three strikes.

I got this advice, but it is expensive. Made in USA though:
