Get the grill. Hook it up and fire it up to full blast and see how close you can put your hand to it without it being 'uncomfortable'... That would be my gauge for how close I'd want it to my trailer.. ;)
I've seen those attached grills to the side that is only about 6" or so away from the side.. Not sure that would work for me.. But, that's just me..
