Propane 'pulsing'

When the propane tanks feeding the grill or cooktop, there is a notable pulsing sound that comes from the tanks. Just started on this last trip. Any ideas what might cause this?

  • Been there. I changed out the tank, then the regulator. No joy. Then changed out the pigtail--the cheapest fix, of course, and solved my problem.

  • I guess I would say forget about it. I noticed mine doing the same thing and wrote the forum and got advise to change the reg. Did that. $35 wasted. still does it. Gas pressure is a tad over 11" and as it pulses it goes to 9.5" and back again. Affects nothing and does it with just one stove burner on or oven and 2 burners on. I have a permenant pressure guage so I can watch it. It seems to affect nothing. I like gadgets and guages. Without them you can only guess. I know.
  • The flame is steady - no problems with output.

As far as checking the pressure in the lines - no, I have not had that checked. The trailer is less than a year old, so I have not had such checks done.
  • Have you had the pressure in the lines checked recently?

Sounds like the line pressure is low.
  • may be normal- do you see flame movement at the device being used when you hear the pulsing, or does the flame remain steady?
I've had some regulators on high pressure burner devices over the years that made swishing type noises but no noticeable affect on flame pattern AND I've had them on low pressure devices (like rv's use) and the diaphragm would begin to weaken to the point the noise would increase and I'd see a pulse in the flame output.

Sounds like it could be the regulator. You say it just started? I assume dual tanks- does it do it with both?

Yep - just started the trip. Yes, does it with both tanks.
