propane regulator

Took the TT out this past weekend. Went to turn on my propane tanks and the indicator on my two stage regulator never turned green. Stayed red. One tank was full, the other 1/2 full. Bought a new regulator, same thing. Took off the hose at the regulator, hooked the other end to the tank, turned on the tank, nothing came out the other end. I did this to both tanks and hoses.I know propane is coming out of the tank because when I turn it off I can hear gas escaping when I unscrew the hose. With the tank valve on, I can hear gas escaping when I unscrew the hose a little. Other than replacing the 2 hoses, I don't know what else to do. Maybe one of you have experienced this and will be able to help. Thanks in advance.

  • RVPapa, thank you too. Have a switchover on a pair of 100 lb cylinders and thought the malfunction to be caused by our butane which has 1/4 the pressure of propane.
  • With the new over fill protection valves the tank must be hooked up before gas will come out.
  • Change out the pigtails. They have excess flow valves built into them. You may get them to work by playing around but will never be reliable.
