I think you have an automatic regulator that is malfunctioning on one side. They all have a lever or knob to switch the primary tank.
When the indicator shows red the primary tank is empty, should be refilled and the lever moved to the other side. Repeat to infinity and the only way to run out is failure to check the indicator.
If you have a choice I recommend Cavagna brand regulator (amazon)
Get new pigtails while you are sorting this out.
