Propane tank problem

Question

Have a 2002 30 ft. Itasca Class C MH. I have a half tank of propane and want to go ahead and get it full and ready for snowbirding in Jan. However, 2 propane dispensing places have been unable to get a seal when they attach to the MH tank so it leaks and they are unable to fill. So, I'm thinking there is a problem with the service valve on the MH. Having a problem finding some place to repair it so far. Anyone else have this problem and solution? Winnebago factory says the tank has to be taken out, emptied, etc.

There is a rubber seal inside the ASME tank fill nozzle that seats and seals with the LP filler nozzle. Odds are that seal is GONE. A competent LP filler should have checked this. Doug

I had a bad valve and had to have it replaced, but check the o-ring first as Doug suggests. If you need a valve you may have to call around to the different local propane sellers to find one that does valve replacement. You can buy the valve yourself but getting the old valve out is no easy deed. The places that work on them have a clamp to hold the tank while they remove and replace the valve.

Go to an actual LPG distributor like Amerigas.  They can do whatever repair is needed and then fill the tank.

Doug

The all important fill valve gasket......If valve has to be replaced tank has to be emptied firstSo check for missing gasket.
