There are many issues with portable tanks they can be damaged by being tossed around in a truck bed (or car trunk) they can be damaged by improper handling, improper connection and exposure to chemicals not likely to be found under a motor home.. More on that in a bit.
The tank on my motor home.. Well I have unhooked and hooked to it ONE TIME (When I installed the Extend-a-stay) as someone said the fill port is "Industrial strength" it is way heavier and as I said many of the things that can happen to a portable very simply are not possible with that 100 pounder bolted to the frame.
Some of those chemicals... METH labs use propane heaters to "Cook" the cra*, and it runs out the brass reacts with some of those chemicals.. This discolors the brass and the pump jockeys are taught (Assuming they have been properly taught) to recognize this and refuse to refill... I have commented from time to time that I was in the room doing my internet run one day while they were doing the review of the final exam.. Well, Multasking is a reuirement on the job I held and am now retired from so I paid attention to both what I was doing and what they were saying. Learned a thing or two.
