The propane company that comes around to fill propane tanks/cylinders can (should) replace the valve
You could do it yourself but you would still need to have tank purged and refilled by a propane company (once you remove valve air will be inside tank so it will need to be purged).
Did the propane guy have the right type of fitting for propane cylinder?
