Should I be concerned about this? It seems like I should, but I have not seen anyone mention it. Maybe because it is obvious? How close is too close? What about genny exhaust?
Talking about a plastic gas can with gasoline in it, here, and driving down the road with it on the bumper.
Am I right in thinking propane canisters are not a concern?
You definitely don't want a gas can directly in the exhaust stream of either the van or the generator.
You would be well advised to buy a metal gas can for transportation. They are more durable than a plastic gas can. A small one will not weigh that much more than plastic.
You may have to move something or design a different approach than having everything stored on a single bumper tray.
