This needs to be broken down and I can offer this: Your Magnum 2800 is capable of a 125A charge and that alone is about 1600W. Add a few more day time loads and it's no wonder the gen tripped out. Doesn't your Magnum have the capability of changing the charge rate? My Magnum ME 2012 does and I often do this when on a 20A pedestal.
So if you can turn your Magnum down then the gen should be fine. Mine is in settings, charge rate but read your manual.
Next your post implies that you then continued on solar charging for the day.
If the CPAC draws 5A at 120V then that is about 55A out of the batteries and in about 4 hours the batteries would be at 50% SOC. ie Your dead batteries at night.
