QUESTION. Megawatt 29-Amp model Maximum Amperage?

Scrubber batteries are designed from the ground up to provide a shift's worth of scrubbing and polishing, then spend perhaps 12-hours (or longer) being recharged.

What is the charge efficiency factor of these batteries? 100.00% out and 100.00% in would qualify it for the Pons & Fleischman Award. AGM achieves around 92%

I have seen 40 amps pulled, upon start up of my Mega Watt S350-12. Usually, within a minute or two, it's down to 33,32,31,30, then pretty much settles in at 29 amps and declines slowly from there. This is with a disconnected voltage of 15.04 set on the pot, with the unit powered up and disconnected from the battery. I run 8 gauge wire to the ring terminals, then to a single T-1275. 45 minutes to an hour usually gets me to a 15 amp to 12 amp charge rate on the T-1275, and from there, I shut it off and let my 8.8 Amp output from a 150W solar panel do the rest.

I don't worry how much amps I pull down running the TV at night anymore, I seem to always be able to go 3 days on solar before a 2 hour generator session and solar the rest of a sunny day gets me pretty much topped off. I am no longer frugal with the LED lights at night inside, I like it bright and cheery these days, the battery does just fine.

I think I paid $55 shipped, plus sale tax, and this unit does the job just fine for me. Battery is the limiting factor... I don't think the T-1275 likes taking a fast charge as much as a pair of 6V T-105s. YMMV, sometimes I wish I had a 100 AH LiFePo that didn't break the bank on price to acquire... maybe in a few more years.

I have yet to try paralleling the 600 watt DC to DC boosters. They do have a current limiting potentiometer on the output. Three of them driven at 12.00 volts boosted to say 16.0 volts can pass more amperage than any but the largest size Megawatts can manufacture.

But I TRUST nothing especially my E=MC2 calculations.

So a watt meter is connected inline to the AC power input and when wattage approaches the capacity of the Megawatt, that's it....if it's 9 amps short of the goal, too bad the load is fixed there. This is what I do with the huge LED arrays, fans, and Meanwell power supplies. 350 watts incoming is it. And even then I will use a 120 volt fan to screw fresh ambient air to the Meanwell's ventilation intake.

The power supplies are not expensive. My rationalization tells me that a hundred thirty dollars worth of working and loafing Megawatts is cheaper than one sixty five dollar charred Megawatt.

I've got to do more research with those 600 watt boosters. How sad it is that I am thousands of miles from my package delivery pickup point.

I am not an expert in transistor design but something tells me pushing a transistor amperage limit with high(er) voltage is a heck of a lot riskier than with lower voltages. A 30 ampere rated bi-polar working at 12.00 volts is a lot more secure than one working at 15.5 volts. Efficiency losses by incorporating a DC to DC booster can be made up by adding more power supply potential or booster capacity. Remember, the batteries being charged have inherent current/voltage limits built in. Voltage is the key.

I've read with interest most of your's and other's Megawatt/Meanwell/Etc. power supply posts.

I love the adjustable output voltage of these units - assuming their specs actually mean that they can in fact deliver their maximum amps while at the same time being set to, and hold, their highest specified output voltage.

Now ... here's what I would REALLY like if I could afford it: A power supply with adjustable output voltage AND simultaneously ... set-able input current draw.

The reason being I'd like to buy, say, a 50 amp Megawatt, set it to 14.6 output volts, AND set it's input current draw to 30 amps maximum so my little 550 VA Honda generator could drive it - and later set it to 50 amps input current draw if I should happen to later buy a 1600 watt Honda generator. In other words, have an RV battery charging power supply that could maintain any desired battery charging voltage on it's outputs while at the same time be usable with any restricted-size 120V AC input power source.

BTW, this concept does not violate any laws of any physics that I know of ... because my engineering group centuries ago had to program our automatic testers that had in them "full four-quadrant" power supplies: Up to their maximum power supply specs, the power supplies could be programmed to supply any output voltage at any output current that the load could take (positive or negative).

Does such an animal exist that you don't have to be an RV-loving Bill Gates to afford?? :h

My Meanwell rsp-500-15 tops out at 41 amps at low battery voltage and 41 amps at 15 volts as well.

Not sure how they manage this.

I've seen my GTpower watt meter climbs as high as 614 watts. From this 500 watt power supply.

My intermediate size Mega puts out 44-amps @ 12.24 battery volts. I would be astonished if the bigger unit did not reach at least 60. The Borg, is getting a wattmeter.

Even at 50a and 14.5v, it would work well with a pair of 6v's, especially in warmer climates. And if combined with a boost converter, it would do well at top charging and EQ'ing. Hard to beat the price at $2.20 an amp for an adjustable unit.

BTW, Megawatt did not furnish one tiny bit of info other than the unit was to be released, the amperage which I mis-relayed to everyone here, and the facts that it was parallel capable and taller than the less powerful Megawatts. Lin steered me to the manufacturer who seemed to agree the unit was 60-amperes capable (to my surprise) and had a top potential of 16.2 volts. Now I am chasing Lin down trying to get him to talk to this guy and see of the units are one and the same as the Megawatt. The Chinese who I could barely understand quoted me a price for a large lot in RinMinbi's not dollars. I was in over my head at that point. It must be Chinese New Years there or the birthday of Mao Tse Tung. Like a day of fiesta in a village here. Out of order.

Mena, what was the amperage at the time? The small unit is rated for 29-amps continuous.

Ratz! Lin directed me to the Goaozedong manufacturer who said 16.2 his Engrish was as poor as my Cantonese. I have a 50-amp unit waiting for me at my PO Box. And a 40-amp unit. That's the last pre-introduction heralding I will ever do - I feel like a Monkey's Uncle..
