A battery disconnect certainly reset my computer on my 2004 F150 Ford. My idle RPM dropped below 400 which was suppose to be around 550 I think it was.
My truck would die at stop signs unless I held down the gas pedal when stopped. In the old days there was an idle adjust but not so with the modern computer controller.
I fought it for about a week after it happened hoping it would establish its operational setting once again but never happened.
I eventually gave up and took it back to FORD and payed my $90 min time on the computer fee charge. IT took all of 4 minutes for the technician to do his full factory setting which indeed solved my very low idle RPM's
I do what was suggested above by back feeding an ALWAYS HOT cigarette lighter port with a small lawn tractor battery before pulling any battery terminal or operating a disconnect switch.
I now have a 2010 FORD F150 truck and continue to back-feed the battery system when working on the batteries.
